1995 Graduate of SWOSU
Bachelor of Science in Natural Science Education
Bachelor of Science in Biology
This is my eighth year with Weatherford Public Schools. This year I will teach Biology I, Honors Chemistry I and Honors Chemistry II.
I started my teaching career at Dibble High School. I then taught at Frederick High School. I was at Altus High School for 12 years. After that, I taught at Hydro-Eakly High School for 5 years. I have been teaching at Weatherford Public Schools since 2015.
After my second year of teaching, I worked in a summer internship program at OMRF where I studied genetic variability and regulation in E. coli. This experience allowed me to build confidence in my ability to conduct, set up, and teach labs with and for students.
In the summer of 2011, I was granted an internship at SWOSU working with Dr. Andrea Holgado. I was allowed to see her work in neuroscience. I gained experience in seeing how real labs work. I studied genes and spent time with worms of the species C. elegans.
I have had the opportunity to help with SAGE STEAM camp, which was formerly known as TECH TREK, for 4 summers. I really enjoyed working with my small groups of 8th grade girls as they learned more about DNA or science of the oil/gas industry. It is an awesome program for the up-and-coming STEM professionals. I have also taught Upward Bound at SWOSU for a few summers, which is also very rewarding.
I have been married to Kevin for about 25 years. We lived much of our married life in Altus, Oklahoma; we moved to Weatherford in 2010. We have 2 children. Josh is living and working in Huntsville, Alabama; Sarah is a Senior at SWOSU. Nolan, who will join our family in February, is a Senior at OU. We have one dog named Marki.
I enjoy spending time with my family. I like to cook new recipes. When I can find the time, I like to escape with a good book.
